[ Glasgow ]

Year 4

Informed by the polarised nature of a 'two-faced' site, the project for a fashion and textile foundation Glasgow deals with internal tension. Deliberately placed sight-lines and spatial interactions help to propel art out of the realm of the school and into the realm of the public. This pull from the city causes metaphorical fragmenting in the core of the building, opening up physical slips and gaps between traditional circulation spaces. The tectonic approach uses solid and void to create large opening and undisrupted views, constantly reaffirming the students' relationship to industry and to the city of Glasgow. The tension of the site carries through to the building and promotes creation for the city rather than the studio.
